Taste 2,000 Years of History
Welcome to Syracuse! I am Chef Ettore Anastasio, and my kitchen is not a strict academy—it is a playground. Forget everything you know about rigid cooking classes. With over 40 years of culinary experience across Italy, I am here to show you that Sicilian cuisine is a magnificent cultural stratification born from two millennia of invasions. Are you ready to eat, laugh, and cook like a true local?
The 3 Step Journey
-
1
Step 1 The Gathering (Meeting Point)
Our adventure begins at the spectacular Temple of Apollo in Piazza Pancali. This historic and iconic spot is where we will meet, make our introductions, and prepare for the delicious chaos of the Ortigia market.
-
2
Step 2: The Sensory Market Tour!
Let me be very clear: the market is not a supermarket. It is a living theater of extreme seasonality and a true sensory journey. Prepare yourself for a glorious tasting marathon: – We will savor sweet almond cookies, freshly shucked oysters, and excellent wine right among the stalls. -You will experience my lucky, playful ritual of eating mortadella “dropped from above” right at the deli stand!

Step 3: From Market to Table (The Cooking Class).
After our interactive shopping, a complimentary transfer will whisk us away (about 3 to 5 km) to the breathtaking outdoor pergola at the “Grani Antichi” restaurant, located near the Greek Theatre. Then, we roll up our sleeves and make magic happen! We will craft traditional fresh pasta entirely by hand—and without eggs!—or dive into a dedicated masterclass to make authentic street food like arancini and panelle. After cooking, we will sit down together to enjoy the feast we have created, exchanging photos and stories in a warm, familial atmosphere. To top it all off, you will receive a little bottle of Sicilian sea salt as a special parting gift from me to you.

Frequently Asked Questions
01 Where do we meet for the cooking classes?
We meet right at the ancient Temple of Apollo (Piazza Pancali) at the entrance of Ortigia. From there, we explore the market together. Don't worry about logistics—I provide free, comfortable transportation (just a short 3-5 km ride) to our gorgeous outdoor cooking location, "Grani Antichi," so your day is completely stress-free.
02 What if I have allergies or strict dietary restrictions?
You have absolutely nothing to worry about! I pride myself on a highly customizable approach. I easily adapt our menu on the spot for vegetarians, vegans, celiacs, lactose-free, and Kosher diets (for example, whipping up a rich, savory mushroom ragĂą instead of meat). My goal is to ensure everyone shares the table together and nobody ever feels left out.
03 I am not very experienced in the kitchen. Is this class right for me?
Yes, absolutely! My kitchen is not a strict academic school; it is a place for fun, sharing, and playing with food. As I always say: you are my guests, absolutely not my students. Whether you are a total beginner or an advanced home cook, I will guide you step-by-step through my techniques in a warm, welcoming environment full of emotional hugs and laughter.
